Tablet FAQ

Make sure that you do have a working wifi internet connection, by checking the connection with another wireless device (e.g. notebook or smartphone). Note that it’s not possible to connect the Difrnce tablet to the internet with a cable.

If the connection is not working, check your router and modem settings (consult the manual for the proper settings) and try again to connect your Difrnce tablet to wifi.

Turn off wifi on the tablet, and turn it back on. Often this makes the tablet reconnect to the wifi network. If there was an internet interruption or your router or modem was turned off, it may be necessary to start with connecting your router or modem to the internet. Please read the manual of your router or modem for instructions how to do that.

Look for pairing button
Some modems or routers have a so called pairing button that must be pressed the very first time you try to make a wifi connection with a new device. Check your wifi router/modem documentation to see if this is the case and press the corresponding button.

Decrease distance
Make sure that you are relatively close – if possible within a few meters – to the modem/router to make your first connection. When this works, increase the distance to test how far away you can go and still make a connection.

Try other wifi acces point
Try connecting to a friend’s wifi access point. If your tablet connects, set your own wifi router/modem with similar parameters.

Type password correctly
If you have to enter a password (a security code of type WEP or WPA) to access your modem or router , be very careful that you do not confuse 1 and I (number one and letter I), 0 and O (zero and letter O), or U and V. These are common mistakes that prevent access to the wireless network.

Tip:
When entering a security code for your wifi access, check the box ‘Show password’. This will allow you to see exactly what you are typing and helps you avoid typing mistakes.

Make sure your battery is completely charged by connecting the tablet to its power adapter. You can improve battery life by fully charging and recharging a couple of times. When fully charged, use your tablet until the battery is completely empty, and then recharge the battery. Repeat this 3 or 4 times.

If the battery is completely drained, charge it by connecting your tablet to the charger/adapter, but do not attempt to start the tablet with the power on/off button. When the unit gets enough power it will start by itself. This can take a few hours. Even when started, do not use the tablet until the battery is fully charged.

You may have network applications that are auto launched when you start the tablet and run in the background. These applications have an impact on the battery drain. For example: automatically checking for e-mail every 5 minutes, or getting weather updates every 10 minutes. Turn of these applications and change the settings to prevent these programs from starting when starting your tablet. Stop the applications when you not actively use them.

If you are not using the wifi connection, shut it off on the tablet. The same goes for Bluetooth.

A screen set to very bright levels also drains energy. Lower the brightness levels and set the tablet to have the screen turn off after 2 minutes of non-use.

All these things will help conserve battery energy.

There are several application stores available, such as Slidememe or Freewarelovers. To be able to install applications from these stores, you have to enable ‘unknown sources’.

3. Tick ‘unknown sources’

Now you can download and install applications from these stores.

Applications have the official extension APK. For instance a Youtube application is called youtube.apk. Use a search engine to find applications. Usually you also get information about the Android version the application is meant for. Your tablet runs on Android 4.0. Most applications for earlier versions will also work on your tablet.

1. Download the applications you like on your computer.
2. Connect your tablet to your computer with a USB cable. This allows you to save the application file on your tablet.
3. On the tablet there is a program called ‘Application Manager’. Start this program. It will automatically find the apk-file.
4. Press on the filename and you will be asked if you want to install the application.
5. Press ‘Yes’ and the application will be installed. This can take a while, depending on the size of the application.

Note:
Just like any other program on the internet, you can’t trust them all. Some applications are comparable to spam, others just don’t work properly or at all. Because we cannot control this, we don’t take responsibility for this.

If your tablet freezes, or in any other way does not react, you can force it to turn off by pushing and holding the power button for 15 seconds. If this doesn’t work, use the ‘pinhole reset button’. Get a paperclip and use it to gently push the reset button on the backside of the unit.

If you unit keeps on freezing or fails in other ways, you can always reset the device to factory default. When you do this, all the content you added will be deleted from the tablet. Therefore it is important to make a backup before resetting the tablet.

1. Connect the tablet to a PC with a USB cable
2. Activate USB transferring and make a backup of your music, photos, documents etc.
3. When the backup is complete, go to Settings.
4. Select Backup & Reset and choose FACTORY DATA RESET.
5. Push OK. The tablet will then start up the same way it was when it left the factory.

Now you can connect the tablet to your computer and transfer your files back to the tablet.

Note: Factory reset will always fix certain problems. Please try this before taking the tablet back to the store or contacting the helpdesk.[/accordion]

How can I fix problems with the touch screen?

[accordion close="1" title="How can I best clean the touch screen?"]If the touch screen is dirty or greasy, it may not react properly. Clean the screen with a dry soft cloth. Note that the screen is made of glass. Preferably use a microfiber cloth made for glass to avoid scratches. You can also use a soft cotton cloth. Make sure the cloth is clean to avoid scratches.

If the touch screen is not working properly, you may need to re-calibrate the screen.

1. Got to settings.
2. In the Settings screen, tap on ‘Repair & Formatting’ at the bottom of the menu list.
3. In the ‘Repair & Formatting’ screen, tap on ‘Touch screen Calibration’. You will be asked to put your tablet down.
4. Put the device on a flat surface.
5. Tap on ‘Calibrate the touch screen’. The calibration will start. Do not touch the device until the calibration is complete.

Note: if you do not put the device on a flat surface (e.g. a table), calibration will not be successful.

You are able to synchronise your tablet with business email and contacts via (certificated) company Microsoft Exchange servers. Launch email application and go to settings.

Almost every application has its own developer. It is impossible for us to keep track of why a game or application does or doesn’t work. If you have problems with an application, please check first the internet webpage of the developer of a forum on the internet.

Most popular online stores now deliver music without Digital Rights Management. You can download this music and play it on your tablet.

Any so called unprotected photo, video or music file (file without Digital Rights Management) can be transferred to the tablet and will play without problem.

Most music, video and photo formats are supported on your tablet. Please check the manual for specific details. Note: Music, movies, applications or any other content bought or downloaded via the iTunes store will almost never play on your tablet.

You can easily transfer existing content from your PC or Mac to your tablet. Just connect your computer to the tablet and drag and drop your media files to the proper folder. Put music into Music, photos into Pictures, and videos into Video. You can also copy your files to an SD memory card (make the corresponding maps yourself) and play them on the tablet.
